Many people go to events and conferences, and they don’t make the most of them. Me included.
Maybe we are checking our phones, maybe we are doing work, but a lot of the time we’re not actually maximizing the opportunities to learn and network.
Leveraging your attendance or participation at a conference on LinkedIn can help boost your professional brand, network and opportunities.
Here are some creative ideas on how to do that:
For Attendees
- Daily Takeaways: Share daily takeaways or insights from each day of the conference. A short write-up or even a bullet-point list can be valuable for your network.
- Quotes & Graphics: Share quotes from speakers in visually appealing graphics. Use tools like Canva to design them.
- Live Updates: Use LinkedIn Live and Instagram stories to share real-time key learnings or event highlights.
- Network Shoutouts: Give shoutouts to new contacts you’ve made or existing contacts you’ve met up with. A photo together can be a nice touch.
- Panel Discussions: Start a discussion thread about a thought-provoking topic presented at the conference.
- Slide Deck Highlight: Share a photo or screenshot of your favorite slide from the presentations you enjoyed or summarize them into infographics.
- Post-Conference Reflection: After the event, post a comprehensive review. Highlight your key takeaways and anticipated industry trends.
For Speakers
- Teaser Content: Before the conference, share snippets or teasers about your talk. This could be a slide, a quote or even a behind-the-scenes look at your preparation.
- Ask for Input: Engage your audience by asking for their opinions on your topic before you present. It’s a great way to make your presentation more interactive and relevant.
- Behind-the-Scenes: Share moments from the backstage, your preparation routine or your post-talk reflections.
- Share Clips: If possible, share short video clips of your presentation’s highlights. Keep them brief and impactful.
- Feedback Loop: After your talk, create a post asking for feedback, further questions or thoughts. Engage in the comments.
- Slide Deck Sharing: If you’re comfortable, share your entire presentation deck or a link to it on LinkedIn. You can use platforms like SlideShare.
- Expand on Q&A: If there was a Q&A session after your talk, you can select interesting questions and answer them in more depth in individual posts.
- Written Content: Turn the core message or sections of your talk into articles or blog posts. Share these on LinkedIn to reach a broader audience.
- Networking: Highlight and thank fellow speakers or attendees who impacted you during the conference.
Remember to use relevant hashtags, tag individuals and the conference organizers, and use high-quality images or graphics to enhance visibility and engagement.
All of these tips have been key to my success. Which of these resonates most with you?
