Congressional Leaders Ask Trump to Fill Long-Standing Vacancies at the NLRB
Wednesday, June 7, 2017

Two vacancies remain on the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and many in the business community are anxiously awaiting President Trump’s expected appointment of pro-management members to the agency. On May 30, members of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce sent the president a letter asking that he move “expeditiously” to fill the vacancies. In that letter, Reps. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.), committee chair, and Tim Walberg (R-Mich.) further noted that the NLRB vacancies are “of great importance to America’s workers and job creators” and concluded with a formal request that the president “fill these vacancies with qualified individuals as quickly as possible.”

As previously reported on the blog, it is anticipated President Trump is preparing to nominate Marvin Kaplan and William Emanuel to fill the vacancies. To date, however, no formal nominations have been made. Until the next two NLRB members are confirmed, the agency will have a 2-1 pro-union majority.
