Nick Mathews is a Principal in McKool Smith's Dallas office with a practice focused on intellectual property and complex commercial litigation. Nick has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in patent infringement matters across a wide range of technology fields, including wireless communications, medical devices, speech coding, and video compression. He also has significant experience handling matters alleging competitive violations in patent licensing related to standard essential patents subject to FRAND or RAND obligations. Nick is an experienced trial lawyer who has presented and cross-examined witnesses at trial and has successfully briefed and argued numerous motions in federal district court and before the International Trade Commission.
Prior to joining the firm, Nick served as a law clerk for the Honorable J. Rodney Gilstrap during his first year on the bench of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division.
Nick is also registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and has experience prosecuting patents and representing clients in inter partes review proceedings.
