Lauren Hancock

Professional Biography

Lauren Hancock brings considerable knowledge and experience about the workings of government entities to her clients. Having served as counsel to Georgia Sen. David Perdue’s chief of staff and worked for current Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue when he was Governor of Georgia, she helps clients advance in their business endeavors where they involve policy matters and government procurement.

Lauren is process- and results-driven government services attorney. She is persistent and efficient in her communications. Her objective is to offer clients strategic legal and public affairs advice particularly in the areas of budget, finance, banking, fundraising, and election campaigns.

Lauren is a natural networker, and she particularly enjoys connecting the dots between the C-suite and Capitol Hill to help clients meet their needs. She works alongside the firm’s directors of state government affairs in Georgia on behalf of corporate clients who have federal government-related needs and taxation, appropriations, small business, and regulatory concerns.

For the senator, Lauren assisted in operations management for his Washington, D.C., and Georgia offices. She advised on federal policy matters, researched and developed legislative proposals, recommended action on voting decisions and co-sponsorship opportunities, and helped pass project authorizing legislation. She also created and implemented operational policies that led to significant improvements in management and communication among the senator’s team and was a key contributor to the development and execution of the office’s long-term goals. As a lifelong music enthusiast, Lauren is particularly passionate about advocating for creators in the shaping of federal policy impacting artists.

Since joining Barnes & Thornburg, Lauren has assisted on monitorships and is a member of the team assisting the Special Compliance Coordinator appointed by the U.S. Department of Commerce to monitor, assess, and report on the U.S. export control compliance of Zhongxing Telecommunications Equipment Corporation, of Shenzhen, China, and ZTE Kangxun Telecommunications Ltd. of Hi-New Shenzhen, China (collectively, ZTE).

While earning her undergraduate degree, Lauren studied the European Union, NATO and other European countries’ government institutions, namely Berlin, Brussels, and Paris.

Lauren was raised in Thomasville, Georgia, known as the “Winter Resort of the South,” where many visit to golf, hunt, and fish.

Lauren is not regularly admitted to practice law in the local courts of the District of Columbia and is working under the supervision of a member of the D.C. Bar pending her admission.
