Keith (Ron) Derrington counsels clients in the development, feasibility, and protection of intellectual property matters. His clients include both Fortune 100 and Fortune 10 corporations. Ron also drafts, files and prosecutes patent applications related to oilfield exploration and production hardware (including subsea applications), refining processes, chemical processes, aeronautical guidance systems, laser ultrasonic devices, rotating equipment, electrical and electro-mechanical devices, automotive improvements, fluids handling equipment, software applications, and petrochemical plant hardware. He participates in due diligence activities and negotiations for intellectual property matters related to mergers and acquisitions. Additionally, Ron counsels U.S. and international clients in worldwide intellectual property ownership in the energy, oil and gas, transportation, and aerospace and defense industries.
Ron has experience in preparing and evaluating license agreements and opinions regarding patentability, validity, infringement, and clearance. His opinion work includes technologies related to downhole perforating devices, wellbore completion tools, alternative fuels, automotive devices, electromagnetic inspection apparatus, chemical processes, and polymeric products.
