Top TED Talks for Attorneys: On Inspiring Action
Wednesday, March 11, 2015

I’m a big fan of TED Talks. If you’re not familiar, TED is a nonprofit that is devoted solely to sharing ideas — usually in the form of short talks on everything from business to design to science to global issues like climate change — by really interesting, smart people.

Over the next few weeks, I’m going to be sharing what I call the Top TED Talks for Attorneys here on the Rainmaker Blog. These are talks that address specific things attorneys face very day in running a law firm — how to motivate your people, how to be a great leader, meeting sales and marketing challenges, working with technology, and so on.

Today’s TED Talk for Attorneys is about leadership. It is by Simon Sinek, an adjunct of the RAND Corporation who also teaches strategic communications at Columbia University. He is the author of Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action and Leaders Eat Last.

Sinek’s premise on leadership is simple but powerful: People don’t buy what you do; they buy why you do it.
