Migration Policy Institute Releases Comparative Brief on Senate and House Versions of Immigration Reform
Wednesday, August 14, 2013

On August 7, 2013, the Migration Policy Institute (MPI) issued a brief comparing the key provisions of the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act (S. 744), the comprehensive immigration reform bill passed by the Senate, with the individual bills that have come before the U.S. House of Representatives’ Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees to date, including the Agricultural Guestworker Act, the Border Security Results Act, the Legal Workforce Act, the Safe Act, and the SKILLS Visa Act. The MPI’s side-by-side comparison provides an overview of both Chambers’ proposals on border security, immigrant and nonimmigrant visa reforms, and immigration enforcement. With lawmakers on recess during the month of August, the path to comprehensive immigration reform is expected to reach a critical juncture this fall as advocates push to make broad-based reform a reality.
