To allow Data Protection Officers (“DPOs”) to interact with one another and share best practices, the European Data Protection Supervisor (“EDPS”) has published a list of DPOs currently appointed by EU agencies. This list identified notably the DPOs for the EDPS as well as the European Court of Justice.
The publication of this information not only assists with fostering relationships amongst the DPOs but also demonstrates that the EDPS, as the independent supervisory authority, is helping keep other EU institutions compliant. As Giovanni Buttarelli of the EDPS, stated in the press release discussing the latest EDPS survey, Measuring Compliance with Data Protection Rules in EU Institutions, “it is the role of the EDPS to make sure they remain accountable in their compliance with data protection rules.”The press release also mentions a “Proposal to amend the current rules governing data protection in the EU institutions.”
