Last week, the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) announced that it is once again increasing the fees for telemarketers to access phone numbers listed on the National Do Not Call Registry (“DNC Registry”). The new fees will take effect on October 01, 2025.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Annual Fees: The annual cost for accessing each area code will increase from $80 to $82.
- Maximum Fee: The cap on the total fee any single entity can be charged for accessing area codes will increase from $22,038 to $22,626.
- Additional Area Codes: The fee for adding area codes during the second half of the annual subscription period will increase from $40 to $41.
As TCPAWorld readers know, telemarketers calling consumers in the United States are required to scrub the DNC Registry to ensure that they do not call consumers whose phone numbers are listed. Each call without consent or an established business relationship to a number listed on the DNC Registry is a violation of the TCPA, with statutory damages of up to $500 per call and up to $1,500 for willful violations. Telemarketers must subscribe each year for access to the DNC Registry.
These changes are in line with the Do-Not-Call Registry Fee Extension Act of 2007, which provides for periodic fee adjustments. The fee increases were approved by a 3-0 vote.
