The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced an update to the hospital compare tool to include overall hospital star ratings. The agency previously committed to updating the methodology used to compare facilities, yet this newest launch failed to include any such update. Many in the industry believe this rating system is flawed, and until CMS updates the Overall Star Rating system, the hospital compare site should be taken down.

The hospital compare tool compares hospitals based on quality and overall star rating scores. The industry argues, however, that the methodology used does not take into account differences in patient populations and misleads patients and consumers using the comparison tool.
