In remarks at the Oceantic 2024 International Partnering Forum in New Orleans, Interior Secretary Deb Haaland announced a new five-year schedule to lease federal offshore tracts for wind energy production.
Haaland said the prospective sales, which will be overseen by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, will include leases in the Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico, Pacific, and the waters off US territories.
The new offshore wind leasing schedule outlined by the Interior secretary includes:
- 2024 - Central Atlantic, Gulf of Maine, Gulf of Mexico and Oregon
- 2025 - Gulf of Mexico
- 2026 - Central Atlantic
- 2027 - Gulf of Mexico and New York Bight
- 2028 - California, a U.S. Territory, Gulf of Maine and Hawaii
Under the plan outlined Wednesday, which includes some previously announced lease auctions, three of the anticipated sales would be for Gulf of Mexico tracts to be offered this year, in 2025 and in 2027.
