Five judges and a professor are clear: The use of AI must strengthen public confidence in the justice system, not compromise it.

As members of the Working Group on AI and the Courts ─ part of the ABA’s Task Force on Law and Artificial Intelligence ─ Dr. Maura R. Grossman and Judges Herbert B. Dixon, Jr.; Allison H. GoddardXavier RodriguezScott U. Schlegel; and Samuel A. Thumma developed guidelines for responsible use of AI tools by judicial officers.

In short, the promise of GenAI to increase productivity and advance the administration of justice must be balanced against the Courts’ core principles.
