HOUSTON – Bracewell LLP partner Stephen B. Crain was honored on Forbes’ inaugural Best-In-State Lawyers list, which recognizes the top lawyers with reputations for integrity and who deliver the finest legal representation for their clients in all 50 US states.

Crain, recognized in Texas, focuses predominately on disputes in the energy sector. His diverse energy practice ranges from oil and gas royalty class actions to power trading disputes to claims involving carbon capture credits.

Crain, who also chairs Bracewell’s litigation section and serves on the firm’s management committee, is recognized for his leadership in high-stakes, high-profile commercial litigation, including billion-dollar disputes and precedent-setting energy cases. He recently secured the final dismissal of all claims against Apache Corporation in a $1.1 billion dispute. After winning at the trial court, he successfully argued the case at the Texas Supreme Court. Crain also has recent – and widely reported – wins for Chevron Corp and Hilcorp Energy Company in precedent-setting cases. Crain currently plays a central role in defending several major energy clients in landmark Winter Storm Uri litigation, serving on the Defense Steering Committee overseeing hundreds of consolidated Texas cases alleging, among many causes, market manipulation during the 2021 crisis.
