The investigation determined that an unauthorized third party gained access to its systems and acquired certain records.

A thorough investigation and review of the impacted data concluded on March 31, 2025, confirming that personal and protected health information was included in the compromised records. The organization stated it took steps to ensure the unauthorized party deleted the stolen data to the best of its ability. The potentially impacted files contained personal information including name, address, date of birth, medical treatment information, and health insurance information, such as policy numbers.
On May 9, 2025, Marlboro-Chesterfield Pathology filed a notice with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights and began sending out notice letters to the affected individuals. Individuals who received notice that their personal information was compromised have rights and potential legal remedies available to them.
