In the United States, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the  Department of Justice (DOJ) regulate antitrust and trade-regulations laws. The Committee of Foreign Investments in the United States is also in charge of the regulation of antitrust agreements and mergers and acquisition deals between US and international businesses. The CFIUS governs investments between two American companies, as well as US-based and international companies who contract in a purchase-sale agreement to determine fairness, and proper balance in negotiations between companies on the international level.

Not only to maintain a fair balance between trade partners, but also to ensure market monopolization does not occur, allowing major corporations to eliminate smaller, local, and international competitors in their niche.
