According to an announcement on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's website on August 31, 2015, the FDA has submitted the final rules on preventive controls for both human and animal foods to the Federal Register for publication:

FSMA announcement

Pursuant to a consent agreement filed in the federal district court in Oakland, California in February 2014, the FDA faced an August 30, 2015 deadline to publish the final rules for preventive controls for human food and preventive controls for animal food.  The FDA's recent announcement suggests that the first FSMA final rules will be available on the Federal Register any day now.

The publishing date of FMSA final rules is significant because compliance deadlines for impacted facilities are currently tied to the date the final rules are published.  For more on FSMA compliance deadlines, please see our prior post "Deadlines for FSMA Final Rules Loom."
