On Sept. 12, 2016, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approved a revised Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, on Aug. 25, 2016. After receiving over 130,000 stakeholder comments in response to the proposed issuance of a new Form I-9, USCIS will publish the revised form version by Nov. 22, 2016. Employers should continue using the current version of the Form I-9 (with a revision date of 03/08/2013 N) until the agency provides further notice about the new form version’s availability. The current form will be acceptable for use until Jan. 21, 2017. After this date, all prior versions of the form, including the current version, will be invalid.
