In early March Michigan's Senator Debbie Stabenow attempted to amend pending legislation to renew Section 1603 renewable energy grants (expired 12/31/11) and wind energy production tax credits (expiring 12/31/12).

Also included in the package of amendments was an extension of the 48c Advanced Energy Manufacturing Tax Credit for the expansion, re-equipping, or construction of new factories in the U.S. to produce clean energy technology (expired in 2010).  Her amendments asked for one year extensions, and were to be tacked on to the Surface Transportation Bill, the pending highway spending legislation.  The amendments needed 60 votes, but went down to defeat on a 49-49 vote.
