Oct. 18, 2012—MapLight Voter's Edge for California, a nonpartisan guide to ballot measures, profiles the funding behind CA Proposition 32. The proposition, if passed, would prohibit unions from using payroll-deducted funds for political purposes and applies the same use prohibition to payroll deductions, if any, by corporations or government contractors. It also prohibits union and corporate contributions to candidates and their committees and prohibits government contractor contributions to elected officers or their committees. A MapLight analysis of CA Secretary of State campaign finance data for Proposition 32 shows $45.6 million has been raised on the "Yes" side and $58.1 million on the "No" side. The chart below lists the top 10 contributors to the "Yes" and "No" sides for Proposition 32.
The MapLight Voter's Edge project for California's ballot measures was made possible in part by a grant from the James Irvine Foundation.
