Professional Biography

Robert D. Kaufman is an Associate Attorney at Strassburger McKenna Gutnick & Gefsky primarily handling matters in the civil litigation, public sector, and non-profit arenas.
While Mr. Kaufman focuses his practice on civil litigation, he brings a broad range of know-how to his SMGG clients, including experience in appellate practice, employment, real estate, personal injury disputes, and intellectual property law. Mr. Kaufman serves businesses, individuals, and nonprofits throughout western Pennsylvania.

Mr. Kaufman graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law cum laude in 2023. During his time at Pitt Law, Mr. Kaufman was a finalist in the Appellate Court Competition and served as Managing Editor of, and contributor to, the University of Pittsburgh Law Review. Mr. Kaufman’s article, “Social Media in the Post-COVID Era: Health Misinformation and Section 230,” was published in the fall of 2023. Before joining SMGG, Mr. Kaufman also gained valuable practical experience interning with the Honorable D. Michael Fisher of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

As a Pittsburgh native, Mr. Kaufman is dedicated to serving his hometown through his pro bono work and community involvement. As a global citizen and lawyer, he is actively involved in serving the wider national and international community. He was a dedicated volunteer for the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund’s Name Change Project and online legal news service JURIST throughout law school, and continues to use his extensive legal and non-legal skills in the service of others.

Mr. Kaufman is accustomed to discipline, meticulous preparation, and flawless delivery. As a professional cellist, he has performed for audiences, nationally and internationally. He is also the co-founder of Pittsburgh-based Red Line String Quartet. When he is not hard at work for his SMMG clients, he can often be found playing or teaching music across southwestern Pennsylvania.
