Professional Biography

Adam Skaggs is senior counsel for the Brennan Center's Democracy program. He works on a range of issues related to money in politics, judicial independence, and voting rights. Before joining the Brennan Center, he was a litigator at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, where he served as pro bono counsel to the Brennan Center on numerous matters. His political commentary has been published in the National Law Journal, The New Republic and U.S. News and World Report, among other publications, he has been widely quoted by media including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, and USA Today, and he has appeared on Fox News, CNN, NPR, and MSNBC's Rachel Maddow Show. Mr. Skaggs graduated summa cum laude with a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, where he was a member of the Brooklyn Law Review. He subsequently clerked for Judge Stanley Marcus of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and Judge Edward Korman, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Mr. Skaggs received an M.S. in Urban Affairs from Hunter College of the City University of New York, and holds a B.A., awarded with distinction, from Swarthmore College.
