Professional Biography
Taylor Lavender is an Intellectual Property Associate whose practice focuses on patent drafting and prosecution. Taylor advises clients ranging from startups to Fortune 500 organizations, protecting innovations and developing intellectual property strategies tailored to their technologies. Her practice spans a range of industries, with a focus on orthopedic and spinal prosthetic implants, wearable biosensors, and other medical device technologies, and helps build strong intellectual property portfolios from development through commercialization.

With a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering, Taylor has a strong interest in the intersection of engineering and human health. She is particularly drawn to technologies that restore function, improve mobility, and support the body’s natural ability to heal. Her experience includes preparing and prosecuting patent applications across diverse subject matter, with a particular emphasis on medical devices and implants, including soft implants and knee, hip, shoulder, and spinal implants. Taylor works closely with inventors, in-house counsel, and research institutions, including medical university centers, to translate complex technical concepts into robust patent protection.

In addition to her medical technologies practice, Taylor has experience supporting clients in the aerospace and automotive sectors. She has assisted with intellectual property matters in a range of engineering-driven technologies, broadening her perspective across diverse industries and innovation landscapes.

Prior to joining the firm full-time, Taylor gained intellectual property experience as a summer associate with Barnes & Thornburg. She also gained experience with the Intellectual Property Clinic at Indiana University Maurer School of Law, assisting pro bono inventors in both the trademark and patent areas. While earning her undergraduate degree, Taylor collaborated on the development of a biocompatible and dissolvable pain modulation device. The device blocked nerve stimulation with the objective of limiting opioid usage for patients with chronic post-operative pain.
