Jill Canfield is an accomplished attorney with over 25 years of experience in telecommunications, technology, corporate, association, and nonprofit law and policy. Based in Washington, D.C., she has built a career at the intersection of legal advocacy, public policy, and rural broadband development – collaborating with both public and private stakeholders to advance critical digital infrastructure and regulatory goals.
Prior to joining Womble, Jill served as General Counsel and Vice President of Policy at NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association. In this role, she led advocacy on behalf of NTCA’s member companies, advising on a broad range of issues including broadband, wireless, video, cybersecurity, and consumer protection. She also oversaw the set up and operations of CyberShare: The Small Broadband Provider ISAC and provided in-house legal counsel to the organization and its subsidiary. In that role, she focused on providing legal advice on corporate governance, compliance, and regulatory matters, drafting and reviewing commercial contracts, licensing agreements, and partnership agreements,and collaborating with various departments, including finance, human resources, and operations to address legal issues and mitigate risk.
Jill has significant experience managing teams,navigating complex regulatory environments, setting up in-house compliance programs and working on major legal issues affecting nonprofit organizations and cooperatives, including antitrust, board governance, transactional matters. She is also a frequent speaker and contributor on topics related to broadband deployment, cybersecurity, telecommunications policy and board governance. In her free time, Jill also volunteers with Canine Companions, raising puppies to become service dogs.
