Professional Biography

David Sipple is a retired partner of HunterMaclean, where he built a decades-long, nationally recognized practice in admiralty and insurance law. His work centered on marine torts and casualties, marine ecology and pollution matters, and the range of disputes that follow oceangoing vessels into port.

David was a fixture in the organizations that shape the maritime bar. A longtime member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States, he served on its Committee on Marine Ecology and Criminal Law and its Committee on Marine Torts and Casualties. He is a past chairman of the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute and a member of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel's Maritime Law Committee. Since 1997, he has served as an associate editor of American Maritime Cases, and he authored several articles on admiralty law for the Mercer Law Review.

David was named Best Lawyers in America's Lawyer of the Year for Admiralty and Maritime Law in Savannah in 2011, 2017, and 2024, and was listed in Best Lawyers for that field from 1995-2024. He was also selected for Georgia Super Lawyers in 2004 and is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell.

David is a past president of both the Port of Savannah Propeller Club and the Hibernian Society of Savannah. He earned his B.A. and M.P.A. from the University of Georgia and his J.D., cum laude, from Mercer University's Walter F. George School of Law.
