Colin McRae is a partner in HunterMaclean's admiralty and maritime practice, where he represents shipping lines, vessel owners, cargo interests, and marine insurers on the disputes that arise in and around the Port of Savannah and throughout the coastal southeast. His practice also spans transportation, logistics, business litigation, real estate disputes, and property tax appeals.
Colin's maritime work includes the defense of personal injury and wrongful death claims, vessel collisions and allisions, bill of lading and charter party disputes, cargo damage claims, oil spill and pollution matters, Coast Guard penalties, and recreational boating casualties. He argued a landmark Supreme Court of Georgia case establishing the exclusivity of federal jurisdiction over marine salvage claims, and won several Eleventh Circuit decisions clarifying the duties vessel owners owe longshoremen during cargo operations.
For more than twenty years, he has served as a Protection and Indemnity (P&I) Correspondent for the Port of Savannah, one of a select few U.S. attorneys to hold Qualification Certificates from the International Group of P&I Clubs. He has also been appointed an Adjunct Professor in Admiralty Law at both Mercer University School of Law and Savannah Law School.
Colin has been listed in Best Lawyers in America for Maritime Law since 2013, twice named Lawyer of the Year for Admiralty and Maritime Law, selected for Georgia Super Lawyers in Transportation and Maritime since 2016, and is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell. He earned his B.A. in History from Yale University and his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Georgia School of Law.
