The review and revision of GMC Res. No. 02/12 was initiated at the October 2025 MERCOSUR Food Commission Meeting based on a request submitted by the Argentine delegation. Proposed revisions included:

- Revoking the authorization for the use of BPA in plastic materials and polymeric coatings; and
- Authorizing the use of starting substances obtained from any source, including waste.
The revisions to GMC Res. 02/12 are scheduled to be discussed during the next MERCOSUR Food Commission Meeting.
